Occupational Therapy Services

Occupational Therapy is a health and rehabilitation profession that helps individuals achieve independence in all facets of their lives.

Occupational Therapists help people of all ages from birth through the elderly to regain, develop, and learn skills that may have been lost due to illness, physical disability, injury, developmental or psychological impairment.

Occupational Therapists evaluate, treat, consult, and assess gross & fine motor coordination, range of motion, strength, hand manipulation & dexterity, balance and postural control, motor planning, sensory registration & processing, attention span, daily living skills, developmental milestones, safety awareness, memory skills, muscle tone & strength, edema, seating and positioning, visual motor coordination, and architectural & environmental barriers.

Our goal is to help the person achieve independence in whatever "occupies" their day.

Occupational therapy services may include:

Teaching daily living skills

Motor, cognitive, perceptual, visual, & sensory evaluation & treatment

Facilitation of normal development

Fabrication of splints and adaptive equipment

Teaching energy conservation & work simplification techniques

Modifying the work environment to prevent work related disabilities

Assisting with community reintegration

Wheelchair selection with seating & positioning

Functional Capacity Evaluations

Who can benefit from Occupational Therapy?

Children: mastering the skills to learn to play & achieve developmental milestones at age appropriate levels. (I.E. premature infants, autism, cerebral palsy, Down's syndrome, mental retardation, spinal bifida, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, brain injury, and many other health problems.)

Adolescents & Adults: Sports related injuries to the upper extremity requiring therapy &/or splinting. Hand,wrist & elbow problems from work injuries to help people return to their job & prevention of work site injuries. (I.E. carpal tunnel, lateral/medial epicondylitis, cubital tunnel, DeQuervain's, Dupuytren's Disease, Reflex Sympathy Dystrophy, and Tendonitis, plus others.)

Elderly: Health problems affecting motor abilities & difficulties with daily activities such as eating, and dressing. Occupational therapists can teach new ways or complete these tasks easier and/or provide adaptive equipment to help complete the tasks independently. (I.E. stroke, Parkinson's, MS, fractures, arthritis, joint replacements, as well as others).
